I'm going to share a quick update on the day shift as I was there first hand for that. First, a big thanks to Kipp Academy for joining us today and helping out on the day shift. The students did a really good job paying attention and running the balls down. It was a bit warm inside but everyone held up very well.
As for the matches, there was some outstanding tennis for the first round. On Court 3, the first match of the day saw lots of long points and some outstanding hitting between Anderson and Menedez final score was 7-6(9), 7-5. Then we got to see some excellent serve and volley play during the Zotov and Gregorc match the final score being 6-4, 6-1. The day shift ball kids left before the Jenkins and Bogdanovic match ended so we'll report on that later.
On court 5 spectators were kept busy watching the 3 setter between Gonzalez and Miranda. Gonzalez dug deep and pulled out the win at 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5). This match was followed by two doubles matches. The final doubles qualifying matches were played this afternoon and we treated to some great play by former US College #1 Devvarman partner Van der Merwe against Mankad and Singh. This was another 3 setter with Mankad and Singh pulling out the win 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-2. The last doubles match that we were able to watch was Haggard/Middlekoop vs Smyczek/Oudesma. Unfortunately, we left before the match ended.
Stay tuned for more from the evening matches.
